About Tripura Sundari Temple
Located in the ancient royal capital of Udaipur (Tripura), the holy Tripura Sundari Temple (popularly known as Matabari) is one of the most sacred of the 51 Shakti Peethas. Built in 1501 AD by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya, the temple is perched on a small hillock resembling the back of a tortoise (Kurmapitha). Dedicated to Goddess Kali, the temple is flanked by the sacred Kalyansagar Lake, home to giant endangered Boston black turtles.
